A little while back I added an NAS to our network; an NAS in simple terms is a Hard Drive that sits on the ethernet network. Sitting on the network allows all computers on the network to use the drive. I use a Simpletech Simpleshare 250GB drive that I bought at Sam's Club. The drive was very easy to setup and use...until I added Microsoft's Windows Live One Care.

The firewall in WLOC killed access to my NAS. The firewall was protecting me from my data!!! After a quick call to tech support for WLOC, a solution was offered. Under the ADVANCED options, enable the following protocols: all DHCP and all ICMP entries.

This fixed my problems; I'm not sure what other problems might arise from enabling these protocols but the tech support person told me the system was still very sound.

Looking for a good way to manage projects? I've found an excellent tool that all my clients love. I'm using basecamp from 37signals. The basecamp service is perfect for collaborating on projects with customers and resources.

I have been running the basecamp software for about 6 months and have no issues. I get compliments all the time from clients about how well organized the site keeps the project. Everyone is on the same page and there is no question about who has the ball.
